Build lifelong friendships with other fellows who share your interests, passions, and perspectives.
The Minority Africa Fellowship prioritizes the forming and maintaining of community. Though virtual, fellows work on a decided group project as a cohort, are encouraged to meet outside of scheduled fellowship meetings, and collaborate on reporting assignments.
Outside of trainings, the fellowship also includes fireside chats with established journalists who are part of the Minority Africa community. These chats are designed to be lighthearted conversations that convey industry truths and realities to the fellows as regards minority coverage.
We are also hoping to create a vibrant alumni network that engages our fellows who are out of the program through working on and reporting for the Minority Africa Advance project.

Cohort Meetings
While the MA Fellowship curriculum includes set meetings among the cohort, fellows are free and are encouraged to organize meetings outside of these scheduled calls. These meetings and its stipulations are accounted for in the fellowship agreement.
Reporting Assignments
Fellows are equally welcome to collaborate on certain reporting assignments among each other. These assignments have to be discussed at the editorial meeting or with an editorial mentor. The MA fellowship can provide some funding outside of stipends for such assignments.

“Community for us is a doing word and remains an intentional activity. While it can be something that happens, for the Minority Africa Fellowship, we are very deliberate about community and we match this intention with corresponding action. ”
