Bayron van Wyk

South Africa

"We see that stories about minorities are often not reported about and when it is reported about, it is often a misrepresentation of these groups."

Let’s get to know one another…

Bayron’s life journey began in the small town of Rehoboth in southern Namibia where he was born. As a child, he struggled with his sexuality because of the stigma associated with being openly gay. It took him a long while to accept who he was and to be comfortable with his own sexuality. Bayron is a human rights activist, writer and scholar interested in LGBTIQA+, environmental and climate change issues. Currently, he is studying in Cape Town, South Africa. His work focuses on LGBTIQA+ organizing in Namibia and through his work, he hopes to bring about more social justice for LGBTIQA+ persons living in Namibia.

Work with me

We encourage organizations to work with and engage Minority Africa fellows. Here's how.

Commissioning them to cover stories.

To make a commissioning request for stories in the areas of interest particularly relevant to this fellow, please contact our fellowship team on fellowship@minorityafrica.org. Establish in your initial communication what the story is and what you’d particularly want the fellow to cover. Our team will pass this across to them and you will receive a response within a 48 hour span.

Press requests

We consider our fellows to be thought leaders in media, journalism, and coverage of minority groups particularly. If you’d like to interview them or get quotes from them for a story, do contact our team in charge of press requests on press@minorityafrica.org. For urgent inquiries, indicate so in the subject line.
